However, this is a tradition that I have never understood. "I love you and I will treat you better than I treat myself, now let me smash cake in your pretty face." I'd like to see the numbers relating the people who smash cake and people who get divorced.

I think it's the kind of person you are... I'm a cake smasher! 14 years of bliss... June 20th, 1992!
As far as understanding... I don't understand half of the traditions in wedding. Might as well have fun and smash cake in your face.
I can't say it's right... But, it makes for a good pic.
